Ride a horse in paradise

Our most popular ride, beach and trail, begins down a shaded coconut and cashew nut grove, leading us to one of the many secluded beaches on Nevis. Along the way, we pass Nelson’s Spring, a beautiful lagoon where clipper ships once filled up with fresh drinking water.

We continue through Calhoun Estate where we see Brahma cattle and in the distance, St. Thomas’ Anglican Church, the oldest active Anglican Church in the Caribbean (1643). Looking south you will see Paradise Beach Nevis, a stunning 5 star luxury villa resort. We turn towards the beach after crossing the Lower Round Road built circa 1690. We turn south on Paradise Beach which is a turtle nesting beach.

We turn east and slowly climb the mountain slope to Paradise Estate where we see ruins of a sugar mill and then ride past a typical Nevisian cedar shingle home out of the 19th century. We continue on through the village of ‘Cotton Ground’ which derives its name from the production of cotton in years past. The people of this village are warm and friendly and you don’t want to forget the name of your horse because the young children, who know the horses, will question you as to which one you are riding.

We return to the stable through the back trails of the riding stables playing hide and seek with the wild, cheeky monkeys. Upon returning to the stable, we enjoy a cold refreshing drink of our island’s natural spring water. Just another wonderful day in paradise!

Romantic Private Rides

Honeymooners and couples are always welcome!

Just tell us in advance and we can provide a private ride for just the two of you at a special rate.

Our sunset ride is a very popular romantic ride.

If you're looking to make amazing memories that will last a lifetime, or if you need the perfect setting to ask that big question, Nevis Equestrian Centre can make it happen!

Safe For Kids Ages 6+

Bring the kids! We specialize in family group rides.

If your little ones (ages under 6 years) are too young for the beach & trail ride, we can accommodate them with a walking ride in our arena.

We can also conduct a shorter ride upon request (mostly beach) for one hour.

Not ready to ride? That's okay! We also have lots of cute and friendly animals to cuddle up with!

Treasure & History

NEC exists on top of Nevis’ original capital, Jamestown, and is steps away from Fort Ashby – the first fort built on Nevis. The area has been excavated a number of times by archaeologist from the USA and the UK. The “pot of gold” for this double rainbow is the famous Trent Jones designed golf course at the Four Seasons Resort.

Keep your eyes peeled as you wait to saddle up. Flint knives, African pottery and various artifacts have been found on the stable grounds.

The Nevis Equestrian Team

The Nevis Equestrian Centre team

The Nevis Equestrian Centre is a family business, owned and operated by CEO John Guilbert and daughter, Erika Guilbert-Archibald with assistance being provided, on occasion, by youngest son, Ryan Guilbert and adult grandchildren, Scott Guilbert Jr. and Kayli Walters.

John Guilbert, Owner/General Manager, raised Arabian show horses for over 20 years in Norco, California and is a Journeyman Horse Shoer (blacksmith) of 36 years. John is a retired executive of AT&T and, after 25 years with the company, relocated to Nevis with his family in 1994 (joining his brother, then General Manager of Trinity Broadcasting Network) arriving on the island with an Arabian mare, his daughter, Erika’s, thoroughbred and the island’s first commercially manufactured horse trailer.

John is a past President of the Sierra Empire Arabian Horse Association, Manager of several horse shows in California and past President, Secretary/Treasurer and Chairman of the Classification Committee of the Nevis Turf & Jockey Club.

John established the Nevis Equestrian Centre in 1996 with Erika and top jockey and race horse trainer, Nevisian, Mr. Dan Bartlette, who, regrettably, met with an untimely death in 2005. John is the past (2001-2009) Executive Director of the Nevis Historical Society and integrates his knowledge of historical sites/events and eco-tourism into the horseback riders’ experience. He is an African American citizen of Nevis and the USA married to Alison (Ali) Jordan-Guilbert, radio broadcaster/horse show announcer in the USA and founding Manager/Announcer, CHOICE Radio FM Nevis (2005-2012).

Erika began riding almost before she walked… and went on to develop her skills as an English, Western and Hunter-Jumper Competitor in horse shows throughout Southern California for 15 years before moving to Nevis.  In 1998, Erika began to volunteer her services in a weekly therapeutic riding program for children with special challenges in the Nevis school system. She trained, coached and traveled with her equestrian students for their successful competition with Special Olympics in North Carolina and Ireland (a first for Nevis).
